ARTOEND: You've said the public go to galleries to see something estranged from them. What do you mean?

Bich Thuy: Familiarity is comfortable, but it is not art's job to comfort. The work should hold you at a slight distance — close enough to feel, far enough to wonder.

ARTOEND: And that distance is where the experience lives?

Bich Thuy: Exactly. Collapse the distance and you have decoration. Keep it, and you have a question you can stand inside.
